How Often Should I Service My Car? A Practical Guide

3 April 20264 min read

Regular servicing keeps your car reliable, safe and holding its value. But how often should you actually have it done?

The General Rule

Most manufacturers recommend servicing every 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Some newer vehicles have variable service intervals based on driving conditions — check your handbook or ask us.

Interim vs Full vs Major Service

  • Interim service — Every 6 months or 6,000 miles. Covers oil and filter change, fluid top-ups, and a basic safety check. Good for high-mileage or city driving.
  • Full service — Every 12 months or 12,000 miles. More comprehensive: includes air filter, spark plugs (petrol), brake inspection, and a full vehicle health check.
  • Major service — Every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Everything in a full service plus transmission fluid, coolant replacement, and additional component checks.
  • Does Servicing Affect My Warranty?

No. Under UK consumer law (specifically the Block Exemption Regulation), you can have your car serviced at any independent garage without affecting your manufacturer warranty — as long as the correct parts and procedures are used.

We stamp your service book and use OE-quality or genuine parts, so your warranty stays intact.
